Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.1 now available!

UPDATE: The Business Objects web site was updated yesterday, 10/08/2008, the same day as my previous post was published.

In addition to adding .NET support, which was omitted from initial XI 3.0 launch, there are new features, small and great, sprinkled throughout the entire platform. As an instructor, I’ll be looking forward getting my new XI 3.1 manuals to see how new features like Content Lifecycle Management (LCM) are covered.

All information. All people. One platform. But I’d still like a new XI 3.1 T-shirt and bumper sticker…

  1. Did you do an upgrade?

If so, did you pick the .NET front end? Some BO doco says a full install is needed to get the .NET functionality as an upgrade only fixes bug issues.

  2. I did a full install of both, not an upgrade. I don’t have a firm answer (I’ve only spent a couple of hours with it so far), but it makes sense that the “upgrade” might just patch up your existing Java version to 3.1. It also appears that the CMC is still Java-only. Only InfoView appears to come in two flavors.

  3. If you want to enable the .NET front end you just have to go to Add/Remove Programs and select “Change/Remove” then just select custom install and add the .NET front end there.

  4. If you want to add the .NET front end you just need to go to Windows Add/Remove programs, select Change/Remove and do a custom install, then select the .NET front end there.
