Remembering Eileen King

Eileen King and I at BusinessObjects Insight 2006

Eileen Richmond King (April 12, 1962 – March 19, 2026)

She was the one who connected me with the “old guard.” She rescued me at my lowest career point in 2007. On January 9, 2007—the same day Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone to the world—I was signing paperwork to become a Dataspace employee, where I had the opportunity to build a new Authorized Education Partner from the ground up. She collected two employee referral bonuses from me. One from Dataspace and another when I followed her to Integra Solutions in Dallas, Texas a few years later.

Eileen is proof that it is possible to go beyond networking or collecting LinkedIn connections but finding true friends.

It’s with great sadness that I share that my good friend and BusinessObjects professional Eileen King has passed away after a lengthy illness (see her family’s Facebook post). I began my career with BusinessObjects in February 2003 and shortly thereafter met Eileen, who was an independent consultant working with my employer, the chairman of the Cleveland BusinessObjects User Group, and a moderator of the original BusinessObjects Board (BOB). The Cleveland BOUG, as well as her volunteerism, would later fold into ASUG and its Ohio chapter.

I’ll miss her.
